My opinion is that mental ill people shouldn’t have guns. I stand by that because crazy people can’t control their own thoughts so what if they get a gun and they get a crazy idea to shoot somebody they will do it because they don’t think it’s wrong.
There are more than 200 diagnoses listed in the most recent version of Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which is released by the American Psychiatric Association. It includes conditions such as anxiety disorders like spider phobia, social phobia, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, hair-picking, pathological gambling, schizophrenia, dementia, different forms of depression and personality disorders, All of these disorders affect the victims brain, and when that happens they usually end up with antisocial personality disorder. When this happens they feel like they are different and start thinking like everyone is bigger than them or everyone hates you. This kind of thinking and behavior can dangerous if the person suffering from that kind of behavior gets his hands on a gun. Also, Nearly one in five people experience clinical depression during their lives; one in five experiences an anxiety disorder; one in 100 experience schizophrenia; and nearly 8 percent of the general population experience PTSD. Aslo people psychiatric disorders, concerns about harm to others typically arise in psychotic patients with paranoid delusions that convince them to harm others. This may happen in, but is not limited to schizophrenia, dementia, severe psychotic depression or psychotic bipolar illness. The only standardized method in place today to stop mentally ill people from acquiring firearms is the form that prospective gun buyers fill out, and licensed sellers enter into the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. As you can see there aren’t that many ways to stop a person that has a mental illness from getting a gun. Like that kid Nicholas Cruz had signs of mental illness but nobody paid attention to that. Also it showed in his records that he had stopped going to counseling that was the main reason he went and shot the kids at that school. As you have just read you can see that there are a lot of reasons why crazy or mental ill people shouldn’t be able to have guns. You also saw how they could be okay but then all of sudden they can change completely because they don’t think right. Also they won't see what they are doing bad. What do you guys think about gun rights for mental ill people? |
